About this event

What opportunities and challenges does on-farm research create? How can farmers, crop advisors and researchers better collaborate to increase awareness and adoption of soil health BMPs?

On October 27, OSCIA welcomes you to join farmers and fellow on-farm researchers at Woodrill Farms near Guelph to participate in this discussion.

The On-Farm Applied Research and Monitoring (ONFARM) program is a four-year applied research initiative, which began in 2019, that examines best management practices (BMPs) and their effect on soil health and agronomic indicators on 25 cooperating farms across southern Ontario.

Our site host, Greg Hannam of Woodrill Farms, is one of these ONFARM cooperators. Through his trial, Greg compares the application of an organic amendment (municipal compost) with and without a multi-species cover crop. The field site is a complex rolling landscape on sandy loam till soil. This year, soybeans were planted under no-till management. Greg hopes to improve soil structure and organic matter levels to improve the long-term viability of soils to produce crops.

ONFARM is just the latest of many on-farm research projects that Greg and Woodrill staff have collaborated on with researchers and agronomists.

Light refreshments will be provided.

The event will take place outdoors and will proceed rain or shine (barring severe inclement weather). If the forecast calls for rain, please bring an umbrella and appropriate clothing and footwear.
